While it is challenging to develop technology that can match a dog's sense of smell for everyday use, we have developed a new two-dimensional electrochemical sensor and built a system that utilizes a large number of sensors simultaneously. Ordinary sensors increase sensitivity by enhancing their ability to capture odors, but we aim to achieve high-sensitivity electronic noses from a new perspective: even if a sensor captures an odor, it releases it so that the next sensor in line can capture it and produce a signal, repeating this process.
